Travel tips

My travel tips including travel gadgets and services I use

The following are travel gadgets and things I have and love, or services I use regularly. For example the sites I use to book my travels, and camera and travel gear I rate. It includes some sites that are particularly helpful if you want to travel independently, something I love to do as it’s more flexible and usually means more pennies to spend.

Hotels

I use a combination of different sites to book hotels but my favourites are Booking.com and Expedia UK, both due to ease of use and the prices they return. They making booking independently flexible (you choose flight times and accommodation that suit your needs), and it’s often (not always) cheaper to book flights and hotels together due to the discounts they apply. I use mostly use Expedia in building a trip to include flight and hotel for example I saved over £200 on the online price provided by an travel agent on my trip to Ellaidhoo.

Check out TripAdvisor for reviews and to book rooms and apartments, apply some common sense to reading reviews though.

Flights

I used to use Skyscanner a lot which is still good,  but I’m finding more and more that the final prices are different from the quotes (higher and lower). Bravofly is a website I found when booking a trip to Vietnam in 2013, I think it was quite new then? Anyway, I find the prices competitive and the search options and filters are easy to use and flexible. For transatlantic flights try Virgin Atlantic and for travelling east try Emirates.

Active Holidays

It’s not often I book a package holiday but I’ve been on two Neilson active holidays. I went to Limnos in Greece but I hear that their other beach clubs are just as good. Whilst not the cheapest holidays, the beach clubs include a lot of extras! Generally they are club board which is almost full board with the option to eat out a few times. The activities include, sailing and windsurfing including lessons, SUP, kayaking, wake boarding, tennis, mountain biking etc. These extras make the trips good value for active families and they also do some single traveller offers. Check out prices and deals.

Explore also have a fantastic range of cool adventure holidays and tours*

Car Hire

I’ve hired a lot of cars in the past 3 years, comparing prices each time. Europcar always seem to be competitive.
